Introduction
The Factory is located in an industrial zone and its immediate neighbors' are in recycling business as well. The land was not used for any cultivation nor was there any human habitation. Before the land was acquired for business, the company were processing the waste metal under bare earth. As business grew, the management have invested heavily to put up the current infrastructure. of significance is the construction of an office block cum cafeteria and the concrete flooring covering approximately two-thirds of the factory land. The entire renovated area has a roofing and therefore not exposed to the elements. Metal wastes processed in the covered area are, therefore, not in contact with the bare earth and provide shield for workers. The rest of factory land have to be bare earth without roofing to allow trailer with magnetic to be operational.
The entry to the factory is similarly laid with concrete flooring and vehicles movement will not cause any damage to the land. The road fronting the factory has heavy traffic during peak hours and suppliers entering/exiting the factory contribute to traffic disruption. The management undertook at its own cost, to widen the stretch fronting the factory and this has mitigated the traffic disruption.
The business model is straight forward; The suppliers bring in their scrap metal waste for sale to Theepa Metals and the company then sort the metal waste into the different metal categories. The segregated metals are then compacted and baled for sale to the metal processing plants. It should be noted that the company does not process nor produce any scheduled wastes.
The company operates under Shah Alam Municipal Authority and has obtained the approval of Jabatan Alam Sekitar Selangor to operate its business. The Factory has been audited for compliance by the same authority and received no citation for any anomaly.
